A Cromwell builder "clear-felled" by the swinging rear door of a truck in Lawrence last week is back home and on the mend.
Keith Mackenzie (52) was walking with a coffee to his Land Cruiser parked in Lawrence's main street on Thursday when he heard the truck coming and stopped, waiting for it to pass.
"Then bang, the trailer door swung and clear-felled me. I didn't see it coming," he said yesterday.
He was taken to Dunedin Hospital and treated for a broken shoulder. He also banged his nose on his vehicle after being hit, which left him with two black eyes.
"I was lucky, but unlucky in another way."
Mr Mackenzie said he was facing six weeks off work but was hoping for a quicker recovery.
He thanked all the people in Lawrence who had helped him after the accident.
Lawrence police are investigating the accident.
