Flow reduction to aid search for teen

Contact Energy will assist with the search for missing Clutha Valley teenager Blake Sinclair by reducing water discharged from the Roxburgh Dam into the Clutha.

Mr Sinclair (18) fell into the river while kneeboarding near the Waitahuna River confluence last Saturday. Senior Sergeant Richard Whitmore, of Balclutha, said Contact Energy was reducing the river's flow to aid search efforts. Police will deploy LandSAR crews and boat teams to search from the river mouth upstream to the Waitahuna confluence.

Mr Sinclair's family was continuing their search, assisted by family and friends.

Last night the dam discharge was progressively reduced from around 1100cumecs to 700cumecs. Once the lake was full, expected to be around noon today, the discharge would be brought back up to a flow of about 1000cumecs. Police said people on or near the Clutha River downstream of the Roxburgh Dam should be aware of the reducing flow from last night and the increasing flow from this afternoon.
