There was food, drink and happiness, but a serious and worthy cause underlined a morning tea provided by Bank of New Zealand staff in Balclutha on Thursday.

The bank joined forces with other branches and community groups nationwide to help stage the country's biggest morning teas to help fund a national helpline for victims of domestic violence.

More than 25 business people, police and ambulance staff gathered at the bank for morning tea while also making donations to the Preventing Violence in the Home non-profit organisation that works to address domestic violence with a focus of keeping people safe in their own homes.
