"Lindsay works tirelessly at the Balclutha Community Garden and is happy to help with odd jobs for people," his anonymous nominator said.
"I always had gardens and it’s a pleasure now to go down any time I want to work, and pass on what I’ve learned," the retired trucker of 53 years said.
"The garden has 32 raised plots, which is a lot for mostly working people with families to manage.
"So volunteering there is excellent for anyone wanting a flexible way to offer something back to the community.
"I am very pleased to get the Local Legend, because Silver Fern Farms quietly does a lot to help out around the district, like supplying the community garden with their ‘super-dirt,’ which you see when you drive past Finegand."
