Since 1968 the service has continued to play an essential role in the community, with 125 Balclutha clients receiving one meal per day across four delivery runs, supported by 110 volunteer drivers.
"The Meals on Wheels service is also proud to act as a check-up, being often the only visit a client gets that day, so it's a look-in to see that all is well," former president Rosa McPherson said.
Long-serving volunteers received service awards ranging from five to 30 years.
Among those recognised were Alison Jones, Katie Wilson, Gay Cross, Rowan McLeod, Faye Holden, Rosa McPherson, Connie Misty, Gail Stoddard, Suzanne Schofield, Kathy Renton and Linley Murray.
"I drive one run a month and see about seven people that day," 25-year driver award winner Kathy Renton said.
"The closest I’ve had to an emergency was advising a lady to use her medical alarm when she said she wasn’t feeling well.
"She came out fine but it turned out the ambulance was an important part in that."
About 30 people attended the gathering, announced by vice-president Lana Reed.
"On behalf of the Balclutha Red Cross, I would like to thank all the Meals on Wheels deliverers and organisers for their stirling work ... You are all a vital part of the an amazing team [and] the welcome smile that brightens their day."
