The South Otago Theatrical Society is on the hunt for hundreds of past members as its jubilee performance approaches.

The society will mark its 50th jubilee show this year and wants members to come back for the event.

Show director Robyn Gardner said there were ``hundreds'' of people unaccounted for who took part in the major musical shows over the years.

Whether it was those from behind the scenes or backstage hands, as well as past performers, not everyone had remained in the Clutha district.

Mrs Gardner asked anyone involved over the years to get in touch and come along.

Current members were also trying to reach out.

The society had about 300 names of people who had been involved with shows, but there could be more who had helped backstage whom the society was unaware of.

The jubilee performance will be a variety show with ``the best bits'' from musicals the society has performed in the past.

It was undecided which songs would feature as it would depend on the talent available.

Mrs Gardner hoped to have a teenage chorus for fan-favourite production Grease.

Anyone who wanted to get involved could audition with any song they liked from past musicals.

The song could even make it into the final show if it was good enough, Mrs Gardner said.

A notable past member of the society, Roy Snow, was interviewed for the show and footage would feature on the night.

Early auditions will begin in April and the run of shows will take place from August 11 to 19.
