Telford tutor Ken Payne has been named winner of the Clutha District Council by-election for the Balclutha ward.
He received 1044 votes, well ahead of Stewart MacDonell, with 328 votes and Darrell Craig-Mackenzie (214). Mr Payne is a senior tutor at Telford, a division of Lincoln University.
Council electoral officer Alan Dickson said 1591 votes were cast, which represented a turnout of about 41.51%.
Mr Payne will join Balclutha ward representatives Crs Hamish Anderson, Ron Davis and Mary Johnstone after he is sworn in at the next council meeting on October 18.
The by-election was forced by the resignation of Cr Chris Hargest.
