Southland road reopens after slip

The road between Te Anau and Milford Sound in Southland has reopened after earlier being closed due to a slip.

A New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) spokesman said the mud slip occurred earlier this morning at Lake Gunn on State Highway 94.

Work was scheduled about 8.45am this morning and the road was expected to re-open about 11.30am.

No alternative routes between the two locations had been identified by NZTA.

NZTA said heavy rain fall in the area overnight and today caused the slip.

The road was reopened after 11am.
