An embroidery exhibition is showing off some of the very best needlecraft, all from artisans right here in the district.

The Eastern Southland Embroiderers’ Guild exhibition is on from July 19 until August 10, with a tonne of embroidery on display at the Eastern Southland Gallery.

From quilts to little figurines to massive centrepieces, the exhibition has a little bit for everyone to enjoy and marvel at.

More than 70 pieces will be on display, with a wide variety of techniques and media, from biscornu and hardanger, through to cross stitch and samplers.

There are framed pieces, needle cases and pin cushions, mats, bags — all kinds of embroidered goodies and art.

All the pieces displayed were created by members of the Eastern Southland Embroiderers’ Guild, a local organisation.

Every two years, guild members will gather up their creations over the years and if they feel so inclined, bring them to be displayed at the gallery.

Guild president Margaret Erskine said the exhibition had a lot to show off, inviting everyone to come have a gander.

"There’s everything really, all sorts of embroidery, it’s not just one specific kind.

"A few bits from classes, and others are people’s choice of what they brought."

She said she was grateful to the gallery for their continual support in allowing the guild to have a special showcase every two years.

Beginners, advanced, new members and veteran embroiderers were showcasing their stuff.

If the exhibitions catch your eye, and you are curious about making some for yourself, the club always has room for more, Mrs Erskine said.

"We’re always looking for new members.

"We’d love to encourage anyone and everyone to come.

"We meet twice a month at the Windsor Community Centre, so if you want to pop in or if you see something interesting, you’re welcome to join us," she said.
