Get ready for an a-Maize-ing time, as a unique experience asks "can you finish the Riversdale Maize Maze?"

The Maize Maze features winding paths, towering rows of corn, wide-open country landscape and the fresh Southland air, held at McClintock Contracting Ltd.

The idea was first discussed early last year, with the hopes of raising funds for two local causes, the Waikaia Trails Trust and Riversdale Home & School.

Now, after planning, planting, painting and patience, the gates will open this Sunday at 10am, running until 4pm. The last entries will be allowed in at 3pm.

Convener Hilary Kelso said it was a unique experience which will undoubtedly bring intrigue and fun for an afternoon out and about.

"Mazes are few and far between in Southland. People should come out and experience the family fun, as well as the adult fun, to test yourself on your sense of direction.

"It’s family friendly, but also is a challenge for the adults, and an opportunity to support the activities we’re raising money for," Mrs Kelso said.

Other entertainment will be on as well, with tractor rides for children, a small mechanical digger with a treasure dig on a sand pile offering spot prizes, and a barbecue to whet appetites after a long day adventuring.

For parents, don’t worry, a coffee cart will be on hand to keep the adventure fuelled up and fun.

Mrs Kelso said the group was extremely grateful for McClintock Contracting Ltd for allowing the use of their paddock.

"They’ve been very very willing, supportive, and enthusiastic about what we’re doing and what we’re raising money for, in the community they also live in," she said.
