The automated external defibrillator (AED) was unveiled last week by the school in partnership with Hato Hone St John and East Gore School at an unveiling attended by Gore Mayor Ben Bell.
First aid training by the school revealed there was no AED device in the East Gore community, and so the decision was made to procure one.
There was previously an AED unit housed at the Longford Tavern. However, since its closure and removal there had been no replacement device until now.
East Gore School principal Dana Turnbull said it was a remarkable day for the school and it would pay dividends for the health and wellbeing for not just the school, but area as a whole.
‘‘What a privilege to be the kaitaki and caregivers of this valuable resource for our community.
‘‘This essential resources brings reassurance, preparedness and care to everyone who learns, works and lives here within in our East Gore community.’’
It represented the school’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of the community and she thanked everyone involved in the AED’s implementation.
Mr Bell, who attended the unveiling, said it was great to have the device in place.
‘‘We thank East Gore School for stepping into this space. What a partnership we have here.
‘‘East Gore is currently thriving and we are always proud to support such valuable initiatives in our local community. It’s wonderful to be here to celebrate it,’’ he said.
