McCombe (44), an administrator with an accountancy firm, suffered a stroke when she was 10, leaving her with significant weakness in her left leg.
She completed the half-marathon walk last year in 3hr 20min, but yesterday suffered with blistering, completing the course in 4hr 30min 11sec.
McCombe walks a 4km to 5km path downhill from her Mornington home to work two or three times a week and will walk the same distance uphill home at night either up Stafford St or High St.
She then completes a 20km circuit either out and back to Brighton, or to other various parts of the greater Dunedin area at the weekend.
Husband Alistair is her biggest supporter, although he does not walk himself.
"He's a couch spud. He like his fishing too much," McCombe said.
Last year, McCombe took motivation for her 3hr 20min time from those around her.
But perhaps her results will provide plenty of motivation to others.
