The Birkenhead combination of Michael Nagy and Grantham won a dramatic men's pairs final 18-17 over the gallant Ross and John Munro (Forbury Park) .
The game looked lost before Grantham played two world-class bowls to win the game.
''It's a great feeling to win a national title. It's hard to do,'' he said.
''I hope there are a few left in me yet.''
Grantham won the singles in 2007 and has won both his national titles in Dunedin.
''It's a nice little hunting ground for me,'' he said.
Grantham described the last end.
''The wind and the rink were tricky. The only way I could see a shot was to try and put the jack into the ditch.''
The Munro brothers led 17-15 before the final end and had three shots on the head after Ross had played accurate lead bowls.
Grantham put the jack into the ditch to turn a deficit of three into two shots.
With his last bowl, Grantham turned his own bowl over to take third shot and win the game.
It was world-class play by Grantham, who also performed his magic on the 12th end. Birkenhead was four down on the head when he ran the jack into the ditch to take two shots. It was a six-point turnaround.
The Birkenhead pair took command early and looked to have the game in their grasp when they led 14-7 after 11 of the 18 ends.
Ross Munro then found his feet and controlled the lead bowls for the next six ends, as Forbury Park scored 10 shots to lead 17-15 with just one end left.
''We got behind early but we started to catch up,'' John said.
''We got our nose in front but knew it wasn't all over, because Tony is accurate with his upshots.''
Grantham admitted they were getting nervous as the Munro brothers kept scoring points.
''We just had to stay calm and play the shots,'' he said.
It was a fine effort by the Munro siblings to reach the final at a national championships for the first time.
''We are proud of the way we played to give ourselves a chance on the last end,'' John said.
''But a game of bowls is never over until that last bowl comes down.''
