Former international Mike Kernaghan will be chasing his fifth national bowls title in Dunedin next week.
Kernaghan (58) has won four titles at the national open championships and will be competing in the national club finals in the triples.
The club championships do not count for a gold star. Five titles in these championships bring a white star.
Kernaghan is skipping the Kaikorai men's triples team that will represent region six in the six-team competition.
He will be joined by the father-and-son pair of Dave and Kelvin Budge.
The 10-day national event begins today at the Westpac Bowls Stadium with the mixed pairs.
The region six representatives are Tony Cook and Christine King
(Balclutha). Each competition lasts two days and the national champion will be the team with the most points after the five games in the round-robin competition.
The region six representative in the men's singles is Robert Wilson (Clutha Valley).
His main opponent will be Lloyd Gallop (Blenheim). The women's singles representative from region six is Imela Holdom (Alexandra). The favourite is Tayla Bruce (Burnside), runner-up in the singles at the national open championships in Dunedin in January.
Craig McCaw and Geoff Wilson (Kaikorai) will carry the hopes of region six in the men's pairs, and Carolyn West and Malia Tavite (Forbury Park) are finalists in the women's pairs.
The favourites in the women's triples are Lois Grey, Bev Morel and Lyn Hattaway (Elmwood)
and the Dunsandel team of Sandra Keith, Serena Matthews, Pam Clarke and Karolyn Boon should win the women's fours.
The Motueka team of Tony Fowler, Dave Currie, Keith Dowie and Craig Fowler is a contender in the men's fours.
