Four of the six boxers from Dunedin's NZ Fight And Fitness Academy came home with Golden Gloves titles to their name, but there was more to come for two of the fighters.
Lani Davis (20) won the best female boxer award and Alex Hanan (15) was awarded the title of best junior boxer.
Hanan had the most work to do to claim his 60kg junior title, taking on North Island No 1 Ezra Meehan in a semifinal.
Hanan went on to topple Daysharn Asomua-Faaitili in a split decision in the final, to secure the 60kg title and the best junior award.
Hanan already holds a national title in the 51kg category from last year's New Zealand youth and junior championships in Hamilton, and coach Ryan Henry is predicting big things for the John McGlashan College pupil.
''He's got a huge future, because he's just starting to come in to his own now,'' Henry said.
The six-strong squad was expected to perform well, but Henry admitted the boxers exceeded expectations in Christchurch.
''You always hope [for a good tournament] but it's taken quite a few years to build a team like we've got, especially in a transient town,'' he said.
''The stable we've got is a young team and they're all based here.''
Lani Davis had just one bout as she went straight through to the 60kg elite female division final, and employed great head movement to beat Sarah Berry by decision.
Her ability to slip and weave under her taller opponent's punches and counter back with blows to the body and the head were key factors in Davis being awarded the female boxer award, Henry said.
Sam Beck (18) had to work hard for a victory over another South Island boxer, Richard Robinson, but gained win by split decision to claim the 75kg elite male category.
Bridgette Sefton (20) gained her 81kg female title by default as neither of her potential North Island opponents travelled.
Henry was rightfully proud of his academy's results in the last nine months, with the four Golden Gloves titles going alongside four New Zealand national titles.
