North Otago had a first-innings win over Mid Canterbury at the Ashburton Domain in a Hawke Cup elimination game at the weekend.
North Otago won the toss and put the home side in to bat, dismissing it in the third session on the first day for 272.
Bo Houston (65) and Des Kurger (48) were the best of the Mid Canterbury batsmen, while Lyall Jemmett (30), Geoff Nash (34) and Don Thomas (30) all made valuable contributions. The North Otago bowlers shared the wickets, David Sewell, David Simpson, Jamie Ferris, Jordan Horrell and Darrin Broom taking two apiece.
At stumps on the first day North Otago was 64 without loss, with Chris Smith and Ben Cant unbeaten on 34 and 19 repectively.
North Otago took its total through to 189 for five at lunch on the second day with Smith out for 42, Cant for 24 and Sean Eathorne unbeaten on 81.
Eathorne went on to make an unbeaten 158 and with David Simpson (24) shared in a ninth-wicket stand of 72 before North Otago's final wicket fell at 296.
Eathorne hit five sixes and 13 fours in his innings .
Richard Print took three for 50 while Dan Thomas, Bevan Ravenscrof and Jemmett each took two wickets for Mid Canterbury.
With no chance of a result the game ended at 5.45pm yesterday with Mid Canterbury 79 for two.
