Satterthwaite, who has been in sublime form for the national side this summer, starred with the bat, the ball and in the field.
She featured in two run outs, took one for 15 from four overs and scored 37 from 36 balls at the top of the innings to help her side overhaul Otago’s total of 128 for five.
But despite her strong performance, the defending champion needed some luck to get the win.
Two wickets had fallen in the last over and Suzie Bates was charging in at Natalie Cox who was fresh at the crease. Cox launched into a drive and got a thick edge which sailed over backward point for four.
It was heartbreaking for the Sparks who had done well to get back into the match after a stuttering innings.
The Sparks actually made a decent start through Bates. The captain hit 41 from 35 before being run out in the ninth over.
In the past the Sparks may have crumbled but there is more depth this season. Polly Inglis and Megan Gibbs combined in a valuable 52-run stand for the fifth wicket to help get the home side through to a defendable total.
Inglis became the third Sparks player to be run out. But her 27 from 19 balls injected some momentum, while Gibbs was undefeated on 30 from 19 deliveries.
Satterthwaite was arguably the pick of the bowlers, although Hayley Jensen bowled tightly as well, with none for 17 from four overs.
Satterthwaite and France Mackay put on 57 for the opening stand. Mackay was on course to steer her side to victory but was run out for 45. Canterbury then got the wobbles and lost three quick wickets before Cox got lucky with that thick edge.
In the other games, Northern Districts beat Wellington by seven wickets in Whangarei, while Auckland hosted Central Districts and won by 42 runs.
