He is likely to continue his sparkling form in today's Footballsouth Premier League match between Technical and Roslyn-Wakari at Ellis Park at 2.45 pm.
Roslyn will provide Technical's stiffest test yet, after coach Mike Fridge's side disposed of Northern, Grants Braes, University and Otago's Youth side, scoring 19 goals and conceding just one.
Burgess has scored 15 goals in five matches, which is more than the whole team total for 80% of other FPL sides.
The striker receives able support from Richard Smith and winger Justin Flaws, in a broad-fronted Technical attack.
Yet even Burgess will expect to find few chinks in the Roslyn defence, which is well marshalled by player-coach Terry Boylan. Though he is not as sharp as in previous seasons, Boylan's ability to read the game is worth a yard or two of pace, and his troops in defence are also seasoned players.
Technical has a similar set-up, with Blair Scoullar in the heart of its defence, where he has had an armchair ride so far but is likely to be tested by Roslyn's pacey attack featuring Tim Dalman, Tom Connor and the abrasive Sean Brand.
However, the game is likely to be won or lost in midfield, where Technical's Ross McKenzie, Andy Coburn and George Milne will tough it out against Tim Mather, James Vaughan and Ben Keat.
In the 1pm game at the Caledonian ground, the Otago Youth side will try to match University's powerful yet profligate attack. At Tonga Park, the 2.45pm match between Caversham and Spirit FC should also generate a few sparks as coach Steve Fleming's side tries to regain ground after losing to Mosgiel.
The unbeaten Invercargill side with two former Scots professionals, Barry Gardiner and Craig Milne, would probably settle for an away draw.
Still licking wounds from last week's six-goal mauling, Northern will not find it easy against the free-scoring Green Island side led by Ryan Atherton when they meet at the Gardens ground.
Bottom-placed Grants Braes is a better side than its league position suggests. Former Roslyn midfielder Jamie Taylor has stiffened the midfield, but Queenstown, despite losing to Caversham, Roslyn and Mosgiel will be difficult to subdue.
• Major League Football commissioner Don Garber says the league will receive $US10 million ($NZ18.25 million) for its agreement to extend David Beckham's loan to AC Milan through to the end of the season.
The 33-year-old England midfielder joined the Los Angeles Galaxy in July 2007 and moved to Milan on a loan in January.
That loan was to expire on March 8 but the sides agreed to extend it through the end of the Italian season.
Beckham will rejoin the Galaxy on July 1, AP reports.
