Using gear borrowed from his mates, Mosgiel's Daniel Harvey said he duly "went out and beat them" at the Proctor Memorial Trophy meeting at the Dunedin Kart Club.
The Sunday racing sessions were dampened with drizzle, giving Harvey an advantage with his wet tyre set-up.
Using parts supplied by Dunedin racers Arron Black and John Whelan, he won each of the four heats and the final.
Black finished third but was quick to credit his friend Harvey's performance.
"He was awesome."
Taieri College year 13 pupil Steven Thompson (17) finished second in his Kosmic CRG reed valve 100cc-engined kart.
He enjoyed the racing but was frustrated at neglecting to source some "good wet weather tyres".
