Four Steel players have been invited to trial for places in the 2014-2015 Silver Ferns squad.

New Steel signing Katarina Cooper has been included in the initial squad of 26 alongside Steel regulars Shannon Francois and Phoenix Karaka.

Steel goal attack Te Paea Selby-Rickit has also made the squad. She will be battling promising Magic shooter Malia Paseka, Australian-born Ameliaranne Wells and incumbent Ellen Halpenny for a place in the final 12 alongside the likes of Maria Tutaia, Cathrine Latu and Jodi Brown.

Brown's spot may also come under pressure.

She was unwanted by the Steel this season but has signed with the Pulse.

Her passing game is her strongest suit but, in the post Irene van Dyk-era, selectors may be looking for a shooter with greater accuracy.

There is a gap in the defence with Anna Harrison ruled out because of pregnancy.

Karaka and former Steel defender Erena Mikaere shape as strong contenders for that spot while Mystics defender Temalisi Fakahokotau impressed during this season's ANZ Championship this season.

The trials will take place in Auckland in mid-September before the squad for the Constellation Cup against Australia is named on September 19.
