Former pupil Juliette Lequeux (front middle) celebrates with Otago Girls’ High School Maadi Cup medal winners (back, from left) Sophie Orchiston (15), Emily Esplin (17) and Islay Merriman (16) and (front, from left) Maggie Hepburn (15) and Harriet Thompson (16) after a special assembly at the school yesterday.

Lequeux was on hand to present the medals - a bronze in the under-17 coxed quadruple sculls and Thompson’s silver in the under-17 single sculls - which were the school’s first at the regatta in 21 years.

Lequeux has spent much of her time in France since 2018 and represented the country at the under-23 world championships.

In 2020 she returned and was selected for the New Zealand under-23 team, but the championships did not go ahead due to Covid-19.
