Wingatui trainer Claire Anderton is hoping a frustrating run with her stable star The Precious One will end at Riccarton today.
The blueblood filly will attempt to get back to her winning ways over 1400m in race 6.
The Precious One resumed from an injury lay-off with a brilliant win at Wingatui in March.
But since then, nothing has gone right for the horse - though some of that has been her own doing.
The 3yr-old ended her unbeaten run when she over-raced and pulled herself to the lead in listed company over 1600m at Riccarton last month.
She was to return to the same track to compete on Great Easter Stakes day, but received a stone bruise when pulling a shoe in the lead-up to that race.
Anderton is hoping The Precious One can put those troubles behind her in today's rating 75 race.
Seeing her filly drop the bit and settle in the field would be a sure sign for her trainer that she has done that.
"Her work has been pleasing and she is over her foot issue," Anderton said.
"She is up there to be ridden quietly. She has got a lesson to learn; that is what this race is all about this run.
"I don't want her thinking she will be going to the front and over-racing."
It will be up to rider Samantha Wynne, who substitutes for the suspended Chris Johnson, to find a nice spot off the pace for The Precious One.
The filly looks to have a decent class edge on most of the rivals, but her ability to handle a saturated track could make her vulnerable.
The Precious One won on debut on a holding heavy10 track at Oamaru but is untested on the heavy11 conditions she is likely to face today.
Her main rival, Secret Stash, is in a similar position.
The 4yr-old won his only start on a heavy10 track when trained in the North Island.
Secret Stash was an impressive winner on a soft track when having his first start from Shane Kennedy and Anna Furlong's stable earlier this month.
Should either The Precious One or Secret Stash be left vulnerable by a bogged track, there is a line-up of proven wet-track performers that will be ready to pounce, including All Black Magic and Promising.
