Racing: Herlihy hoping to drive next week

Tony Herlihy, the Papakura horseman who was knocked unconscious in a race incident at Alexandra Park on Friday night, said he would resume race driving on Friday week.

Herlihy was taken to hospital after he was unseated at the start.

"The horse inside me galloped and flicked me out and I landed on my head and was knocked out," Herlihy said.

"I am on leave for a week and I will be back for the meeting on August 31."

• Adam Sanderson will sign off from the New Zealand scene at Gore on Sunday.

Sanderson (23), who has driven 66 winners, including 40 last season, has taken a position as foreman with the Fernvale (Queensland ) stable of Darrel Graham. Sanderson drove in Queensland during the winter.

• Zac Butcher, who drove Cheer The Lady to win an Australasian Breeders Crown race on Sunday, is now serving a two-week suspension. He was suspended for not driving out Cheer The Lady when she finished third in the semifinal nine days earlier.

• Mac The Finn, who finished third in February at his only start, ran the fastest time of triallists at Ashburton yesterday.

He ran 2400m (mobile) in 3.03.5, the last 800m in 57.4.
