Racing: So You Think Melbourne Cup favourite

So You Think will run as favourite in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup for Bart Cummings and Dato Tan Chin Nam despite reports the champion had been sold to an international stud.

So You Think tuned up for the Cup with an authoritative victory in Saturday's Mackinnon Stakes, his fifth Group One victory from just 11 starts.

Rumours surfaced throughout the afternoon the four-year-old had been the subject of a huge offer which included the condition he did not run in the Cup.

But Dato Tan's racing manager Duncan Ramage said he would definitely line up.

"There has been a lot of interest in him for some time," Ramage said.

"But he will run in the Melbourne Cup for Dato Tan Chin Nam and Tunku Ahmad Yahaya, that's the situation."

So You Think drew barrier three for the Cup and displaced last year's winner Shocking as favourite at $3.50.

Shocking, who is topweight this year with 57kg, is now at $8 after drawing the outside gate of 24.

"He jumped from 21 last year and won so I think the barrier is irrelevant," trainer Mark Kavanagh said.

"There's a thousand-metre run to the first bend so there's time to find a spot."

Third favourite is Maluckyday who raced his way into the Cup by winning Saturday's Lexus Stakes.

Raced by Nick Moraitis of Might And Power fame, the four-year-old will be ridden by Luke Nolen who will be wasting to make the 51kg Maluckyday will carry.

Jim Cassidy rode Maluckyday to his Lexus win but was already committed to Once Were Wild in the Cup.

Nine international entrants are among the final 24, the most since the race became global in 1993.

Godolphin will have two runners after Holberg scraped into the field to join Campanologist.

Kerrin McEvoy will ride Campanologist with Frankie Dettori to steer Holberg.

"It's hard to choose between them. Holberg has the better weight, he's carrying 53.5, that will help him a lot," trainer Saeed bin Suroor said.

"Campanologist, his two Group One wins were over a mile and a half (2400m). So they are very similar, very close.

"Campanologist has won in the soft in the past."

Cummings also has Precedence in the race and Gai Waterhouse has two runners, Descarado and Once Were Wild.

Waterhouse has produced two second placings in the Cup while Cummings has won the race 12 times.
