The women's lightweight quadruple sculls is expected to lead the New Zealand University rowing team to its fifth consecutive win in the annual transtasman series this week.
There is an Otago University member in each crew and the women's lightweight quadruple scull is entirely from Otago.
The crew of Brittany Allan, Laura Tester, Leigh Johnston and Lisa Owen is coached by the experienced Glen Sinclair, who is the manager of the University of Otago Students Association Aquatic Centre.
The key rower in the crew is stroke Allan, who stroked the Waihopai club of Southland to two medals at the New Zealand championships at Lake Ruataniwha in February.
The quadruple sculls was third in the women's club event and the eight won the silver medal.
The team was selected in April after the New Zealand University Rowing Championships at Lake Karapiro.
It is the first time the transtasman test series, that was first held in 1998, has been held at Adelaide.
Australia has been unable to field a women's eight so the previously selected New Zealand eight has been split into two fours, and both will compete against the single Australian four.
The traditional 2km races will be held at the West Lakes course today and tomorrow and the 5km race will be held on the Murray River on Friday.
The men's lightweight four trained under the supervision of Dave Williamson in Blenheim.
The women's lightweight quadruple sculls and the two women's coxed fours trained at Dunedin under supervision of coaches Glen Sinclair and Malcolm McIntyre.
The men's eight trained under coach of Matt Symonds at Lake Karapiro.
The Australian team is made up of rowers from Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Sydney universities.
