Selica Winiata scored three tries as the Black Ferns beat Wales 44-12 in their women's rugby World Cup opener this morning in Dublin.

The fullback was joined by winger Renee Wickliffe, who scored two, while other winger, Portia Woodman, scored one.

The team's other two tries went to centre Stacey Waaka and lock Eloise Blackwell.

Wales had competed well for much of the first half, before a quickfire double from Wickliffe helped take the score to 20-0 at halftime.

Sioned Harries and Melissa Clay both scored tries for Wales.

The Blacks Ferns' next pool game is against Hong Kong on Sunday.
