Reliable Blues midfielder AJ Lam has signed with French Top 14 club Clermont and will depart the club after the 2026 Super Rugby season.

Lam remains committed to the Blues for the upcoming campaign.

Since making his Super Rugby debut for the Blues in 2021, Lam has built a reputation as one of the club’s most dynamic backs.

Lam has amassed 58 caps for the Blues and was a key figure in the team’s 2024 title run.

Reflecting on his decision, Lam said the move was an exciting new chapter, but for now his focus remained firmly on the Blues.

"This club has shaped me. The Blues have been my home and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. I’m grateful for the support from the coaches, staff, my team-mates and our fans," he said.

"While I’m excited for the opportunity in France, my goal right now is to give everything to the Blues in 2026 and finish my time here in the best possible way."

Blues general manager of rugby Murray Williams said Lam would leave a lasting impression with the club.

"AJ is a Blues man through and through. He’s grown with this club from the moment he arrived.

"Clermont are getting a special player, but we’re grateful that we have another full season with him. AJ is locked in for 2026 and we know he’ll give everything for the jersey." — Allied Media
