Alhambra-Union first five Will Thode proved the difference in the Broncos’ 43-41 upset victory over fourth-placed Green Island at Miller Park on Saturday. Thriving in the role as captain of a side full of promise but unable to deliver until Saturday, he out-mastered his side’s more favoured opponent with his astute playmaking skills. Thode also converted five of his side’s six tries, kicked a penalty goal and had the final say with a match-winning try in the dying moments, adding the conversion to clinch the win.
