Alexandra ground out a win over Matakanui Combined 16-10 at Molyneux Park in Alexandra.
In an error-ridden match, the home side went ahead early with a converted try to prop Lance Davies and a penalty to first five-eighth Michael Paulin.
Matakanui kept in touch with a penalty of its own to Stu Melville.
Early in the second half, Matakanui wing and man of the match Nathan Armstrong scored to lock the game at 10-10.
Paulin knocked over two late goals to ensure the win for Alexandra.
Prop Michael Rogers was Alexandra's best player.
