Tickets for the first game to be played at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium will go on sale tomorrow with stadium boss David Davies saying the selling of the tickets is a major step forward.

The game between West Coast and North Otago in the Heartland Championship is set to be played at the stadium on August 7, and almost guaranteed to be the first game of any sport to be played at the complex.

Davies said the stadium was looking to host as many events as possible before the first Rugby World Cup game but in all probability the Heartland Championship game would be the first event to be played at the stadium.

All facilities will be in operation including the two large video screens.

"The traffic management plan, ticketing systems, technology and staff will all be operational for the first time and we'll be monitoring everything very closely," he said.

"It is natural to expect some learnings to come out of this very first event. We'll take what we learn and grow from the experience as we move to future events."

He said it was important to understand as much as possible about the stadium to iron out any of the minor teething problems that are inevitable in a brand new venue.

He estimated a crowd of between 7000 and 8000 would come to the game, though it was hard to judge how many people would turn up.

Otago plays Southland the day before to mark the last game to be played at Carisbrook and Davies said interest would naturally be high in that game.

The match at the new stadium, which kicks off at 2.05pm, will be televised live by Sky Television.

Tickets for the match are $15 for an adult and $5 for a child, while a family ticket, for two adults and two children, is $30.

Tickets can be bought through Ticket Direct.
