New Zealand tennis No 1 Marina Erakovic has fallen in three sets to the 7th seed in the second round of the WTA Premier Tournament in Cincinnati today.

Erakovic, who won through qualifying and then beat top-20 player Carla Suarez Navarro in the first round, was defeated by tournament 7th seed and world No 9 Petra Kvitova 6-4 6-7(7) 6-3 in two hours 31 minutes.

Overall there was only four points in the match with the Czech winning 112 points in total and Erakovic finishing with 108.

Perhaps a telling factor was that Kvitova was able to save eight service break points, dropping just one break of serve in the entire match

Yesterday in the doubles draw Erakovic and regular partner, Cara Black, lost 7-6(5) 7-6(6) to the German pair of Angelique Kerber and Andrea Petkovic in the first round.
