The new $33 million Bunnings will open its doors at Christchurch Airport on Saturday.

Located at Harvard Park on Russley Rd next to BP, the DIY and household hardware warehouse chain will employ about 140 Christchurch people.

Said store manager Mihir Chitre, who has worked at Bunnings for seven years: “Team members have supported a number of community groups already, working together to assist in local community projects, such as rejuvenating Burnside Primary School’s fruit and vegetable garden with seasonal vegetables and installing their very own greenhouse."

The grand opening from 10am-2pm will feature children's celebrity guests, a magician, bouncy castle, vertical bungy, santa, face painting and DIY workshops.

The new warehouse covers more than 13,000 sq m, with a timber trade and building materials area, landscape yard and an outdoor nursery.

It also includes a playground and café and parking for more than 300 vehicles.
