One dead, one critical after crash near Rangiora

    One person is dead and three people are injured, one critically, after a crash near Rangiora this morning.

    Senior Sergeant Chris Wakelin said the crash occurred about 10.25am, on Loburn Whiterock Rd near the intersection of Barkers Rd.

    Police initially said there were believed to be serious injuries, but in an update about 2pm they advised the crash was fatal.

    “Sadly, one person died at the scene, while another was critically hurt.

    "Two other occupants received moderate injuries," Snr Sgt Wakelin said.

    A road closure remained in place on Saturday afternoon while investigations were being carried out.
