A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said they responded to a call just before 9am.
One structure is under threat from the blaze, the spokesperson said.
Four fire trucks were on the scene with all firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and another four were on the way.
The fire was burning approximately 200m of trees along the end of the school's Don Field.
