Channel to focus on local body elections

Dunedin's Channel 9 is preparing to provide extensive coverage in the build-up to next month's local body elections.

Station production manager Luke Chapman said the highlight was likely to be a 10-episode series Local Body Elections 2010, which will cover how to vote, provide an explanation of the wards and include interviews with local political commentators on topical issues facing the city.

It would also be a chance to eyeball your mayoral candidates and candidates standing for the Dunedin City Council, Otago Regional Council and Southern District Health Board, Mr Chapman said.

During the next fortnight, Channel 9 will also have premiere screenings of documentaries by Otago University science communication graduates, which have gained recognition at international film festivals.

Channel 9 has also produced a documentary titled Dunedin's Stadium, the first in a series which includes a showcase of what our new stadium will offer, along with a history of how it began.

Due to public demand, Channel 9 will also rescreen coverage of the Dunedin Mini World Cup, which took place in Dunedin on August 28 and involved hundreds of potential future All Whites.

The new programming will complement Channel 9's regular line-up of local news coverage and Dunedin Diary with Dougal Stevenson.
