A match-predicting octopus might not be necessary for this Lions tour if Cromwell boy Ben Griffith’s (9) confident forecast for tomorrow’s Dunedin match proves true.

"The Highlanders will win. By a lot, I think."

Ben will run the ball out at the Forsyth Barr Stadium clash after winning a competition through New Zealand Rugby.

As well as watching tomorrow’s match, he and father Mike travelled to the Crusaders game in Christchurch on Saturday,  will head to Rotorua for the Maori All Blacks game this Saturday,  and will be in the action for two of the tests.

The pair were also in the stands for all the All Blacks games through to the final at the Rugby World Cup in England.

Ben said he was a big rugby fan.

"We always go down for the Highlanders games."

While he loved all the Highlanders, his favourite players were Ben Smith and Waisake Naholo.

"At a game, when I was about 5, I went up to Ben Smith and asked if I could have a photo with him and he picked me up."

He hoped to get snapped with some of the team again this week.

Mr Griffith said the competition called for an email outlining why his son would be a suitable candidate to run the ball out.

"I wrote that he played for the Cromwell team here and that we were season ticket holders. Ben always says: ‘One day can I run the ball out?’"

Although originally from the United Kingdom, Mr Griffith had "converted" his rugby allegiances.

"We’ve been here for over seven years now."

As they already had tickets to tomorrow’s game, Ben gave his free passes to two of his friends.
