Two dogs died on Wednesday night after being hit by a vehicle on the Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Rd.
Acting Sergeant Terry Wood, of Queenstown, said both dogs appeared to have run into the path of the vehicle about 8.50pm.
• A UnitedStates rugby player was assaulted at Southern Laughter Backpackers at 10.40pm on Wednesday, after being greeted with a haka.
Sgt Wood said the 34-year-old victim was with a travelling rugby team and had been at the hostel, along with the alleged offender, who was staying at the hosted.
"The offender has done a haka in front of the group, he [the victim] was quite interested. The victim approached the offender, shook his hand and introduced himself.
"He's said something the offender has taken offence at and the offender has punched him twice."
Police arrested the man, thought to be aged between 28 and 30, from Invercargill, at 7.30am yesterday. He was found to have outstanding fines and appeared at a registrar's adjournment in the Queenstown District Court.
He was charged with assault and is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court on April 23.
• Police are making inquiries after part of a wooden door at Roaring Megs Restaurant in Queenstown was kicked in, about 2am yesterday.
Sgt Wood said the offender had targeted the Shotover St restaurant, but no entry was gained.
A security alarm was activated and the offender had fled the scene.
• Two men were arrested in central Queenstown about 1am yesterday, after allegedly fighting.
Sgt Wood said the men began fighting inside Subculture and after they left the bar, another fight broke out in Church St.
