Dawn Princess enters Otago Harbour, signalling the start of the record-breaking 2012-13 cruise ship season.

The vessel, with 1950 passengers and 830 crew, arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday morning, a fortnight after a planned Dunedin visit by Sea Princess was cancelled due to high winds in the Canterbury area.

Despite the delayed start to the season, 87 port visits were expected this year, bringing an estimated 160,000 passengers and 69,000 crew to the city.

The cruise ship Oosterdam is due to arrive in Port Chalmers this morning. The vessel, with 1918 passengers and 800 crew, is expected to arrive at Beach St wharf at 7.15am from Hobart.

The ship will leave for Akaroa at 6pm.
