• A Dunedin man who allegedly approached two people while brandishing a weapon with the intention of robbing them will appear in the Dunedin District Court today.
Police allege Daniel Robert Matheson (32) was holding up an axe or something similar when he walked up to a car carrying two people in Colston St, South Dunedin, about 1.25pm on Friday.
He was arrested on Saturday and was charged with the indictable offence of assault with intent to rob.
He was held in police custody during the weekend and further remanded in custody by consent when he appeared before a justice of the peace in Dunedin District Court yesterday.
He will reappear today.
• The suspicion of a Dunedin scrap metal dealer was raised when a man trying to sell the dealer a copper hot water cylinder told him he had found it in a bush.
Sergeant Chris George, of Dunedin, said the matter was reported to police and a 43-year-old was expected to be charged and appear in the Dunedin District Court next week.
• An Auckland man has been charged with assault after he allegedly punched a Dunedin brothel manager in the face during a "dispute over services rendered".
Sgt George said the 44-year-old man was arrested on Sunday.
Police alleged he punched the female manager in the face once.
• Police are seeking any information of the burglary of a Lees St, central Dunedin, house at the weekend.
Sgt George said a woman woke about 3am on Sunday to find a man, described as Maori, aged 20 to 30 and wearing dark clothes, in her bedroom.
The man grabbed her handbag and ran off.
• With summer approaching, incidents of indecent public behaviour would probably increase and should be reported to police as soon as possible so there was the best possible chance of catching offenders, Sgt George said.
His comments followed an incident at the weekend in which a man knocked on a Grange St, central Dunedin, bedroom window at 1.10am.
When the occupant looked out, the man was committing an indecent act.
No arrests had yet been made.
• Police are seeking information about a maroon Lexus driven by a Caucasian male in his late 50s, possibly seen in the area of Stedman Rd in Mosgiel on Sunday.
Sgt George said a female cyclist reported the driver to police, after he stopped her in Stedman Rd at 3.45pm on Sunday and had a conversation with her that made her feel "very uncomfortable".
Any information should be reported to the Mosgiel police station.
