The family of a child and grandmother killed when a landslide hit a house in Tauranga say they're "absolutely devastated" by the loss of a "treasured son" and his "beloved Nai Nai".
Geotech engineers told Tauranga City Council 20 years ago buildings shouldn't be allowed in the "runout" zones of potential landslides, unless they had specially constructed protection.
