Daniel Craig Rippon, 23, who struck the helpless, intoxicated victim with his fists, will not be eligible for parole for 12 years, and his partner, Jamie Ngahuia Ahsin, 24, a mother of two and driver of the car in which they were travelling, must serve 10 years six months.

The same sentence was imposed on Rayleen Matewai Noyle Rameka, 20, who the judge described as "a catalyst of some sort," to the tragic events of September 23, 2008 and the death two days later of Kumeroa, who was walking to his Wanganui home when he was attacked.
