NZ-born skydiver dies

An elderly New Zealand-born man has died while on a tandem skydiving jump in Australia to celebrate his 70th birthday.

Terry Vowles was 10,000 feet (3048m) above North Kirra Beach on the Gold Coast on Thursday when he lost consciousness.

Gold Coast Skydive chief instructor Rob McMillan told Network 10 he performed CPR on Mr Vowles once they had landed, but he died at the scene.

Police said it was believed Mr Vowles might have died of a heart attack.
