Roof fire at Petone battery factory contained

Fire fighters have put out a fire in the roof of the lead-smelting plant section of the Exide Technologies battery factory at Petone.

Smoke was reported coming from the roof of the building just after 9pm and eight appliances and 40 firefighters were called to the blaze.

Firefighters managed to keep the fire contained in one section of the building and put it out by 12pm, a fire service spokesman said.
