Arts tuition for pupils

Senoir secondary school pupils interested in the performing arts will have an opportunity to gain hands-on tuition in Oamaru from industry professionals.

Hilary Norris and Martyn Roberts will lead separate workshops on drama, and lighting design and operation at Waitaki Boys High School on November 1 and 2.

The workshops will be hosted by Living History NZ, with the support of Creative New Zealand's communities programme, and form part of a wider opportunity for pupils to shadow the rehearsal process of live show The Great Storm of 1868, with a view to possible summer holiday roles as technicians and understudies.

The idea was conceived after three Waitaki Boys pupils were technicians on the set last season.

One of the pupils had gone on to train in lighting design, Living History NZ producer Scott Elliffe said.
