Farmer contest on Sunday

Waitaki Boys High School is the venue for the Aorangi regional final of the National Bank Young Farmer Contest on Sunday.

The practical session will be held mostly on Milner Park with the evening session in the auditorium.

The final is expected to be a close contest with all but one of the eight finalists having competed in a regional final.

Among the favourites will be Paul Sargent (Mid-Canterbury), who has featured in the top four in regional finals for several years, Tim O'Sullivan (Timaru), who was third in the regional final in 2007, and Grant McNaughton (Timaru), who represented neighbouring region Tasman in the 2007 grand final.

The other contestants are Ben Johnson and Bert Oliver, both representing Mid-Canterbury, Andrew Scott (Timaru) and Tom Hunt and David Affleck, representing North Otago.

The practical session will start at 8am, followed by the agri-sports at 1pm.
