Queenstown Lakes District Council has responded to milder temperatures and will only be posting road reports as conditions require.
The online communications system in which updates were posted on the council's website and social media pages had been updated daily since winter began, until last Friday.
Transport manager Denis Mander said the council did not want to be "repeating the same message".
The mild weather was "forecast to carry on for a week or so" and the council drew on multiple sources, so "we know when unsettled weather is coming. We still have people out there patrolling," he said.
The council's Twitter feed advised "if you don't hear from us, assume all is good on the roads".
Mr Mander said the council's sources included the MetService, information from Milford Sound, a Downers weather station and on-the-road reports from Downers and Fulton Hogan drivers.
He said the weather was generally dry, but shaded areas could turn icy in a matter of minutes and motorists should continue to drive with caution.
