Fundraiser for computers

Wakatipu High School needs a Cow - that is, a computer on wheels - and the school is hoping a fundraising evening at Jacks Point next month will raise all the money it needs.

PTA president Alyssandra Skerret said many of the school's computers were "old and very slow", which limited their usefulness for pupils.

"They were wonderfully donated about 10 years ago, but they really need to be upgraded ... but because we're a decile 10 school, we don't get [funding for that].

"Having a set of laptops on portable trolleys means they can be made available throughout the school, as needed."

One Cow costs about $17,500 plus GST.

The trolley alone costs $1500 and the price of a laptop is about $16,000. The Jacks Point Clubhouse would host the evening on September 11, which would include canapes and desserts, an auction and entertainment by WHS pupils Max Gunn and Emily Burns, regular performers at St Moritz, before LA Social Club took to the stage, Mrs Skerret said.

Among the items for auction were a cocktail-making and canape session for 10, jewellery, cosmetic acupuncture, meals, a ski pass, wine, art, a tool set, a dental crown and boat rides.

"This will be a fun evening with the added benefit of helping all our community's children," Mrs Skerret said.

"It's also a great chance for parents to meet other parents, and for other locals to come along and show their support as well."

Tickets, limited to 120, cost $40 per person and are available from the WHS office, Wilkinsons, Remarkable, Summerfield and Arrowtown pharmacies.
