101 years and still going strong - Queenstown's grand old ''Lady of the Lake'' is celebrating her birthday with a special Frankton Arm cruise on October 18.
Operator Real Journeys has invited senior citizens from around the Central Lakes districts to come on board for the price of a gold coin. Donations will be given to St John Wakatipu and ambulance officers will be there on the day.
Real Journeys is also running a competition with Wakatipu primary school to build a model of TSS Earnslaw. The winner's class will be invited to join the cruise.
Residents and visitors are welcome to buy a ticket for the birthday cruise at the special discounted rate of $25, booked via visitor centres, or by telephoning or emailing Real Journeys. Birthday cake and free tea and coffee will be served on board when the Earnslaw departs Steamer Wharf at 10am and returns at 11.30am.
Real Journeys and the Queenstown Times have teamed up to offer one reader two free tickets for the Earnslaw's birthday cruise. Simply email your name and daytime telephone number to james.beech@odt.co.nz by noon this Friday and the first name out of the hat wins the double pass. The winner will be notified.
