Hours after the Southern DHB unveiled its new healthcare model for an "integrated family health centre", which could take 18 to 24 months to develop after consultation, Remarkables Park Ltd and the Queenstown Medical Centre announced their answer to the Wakatipu's health demands by mid-2013.
The medical facility, which gained resource consent in 2009, would cover 3200sq m, but its size could be more than doubled if required.
It will corporate radiology services run by Pacific Radiology, owners of Otago Radiology, plus observation beds and an accident and emergency clinic.
Specialist suites will cater for orthopaedic and surgical consultants. Pharmacists and physiotherapists would work there too.
Dr Hans Raetz, of Queenstown Medical Centre, said the Skin Institute would move to the site.
The integrated facility would be part of a "Queenstown health campus" at Remarkables Park capable of housing a pharmacy and dental facilities, with Southern Communities Laboratory also able to move there.
The University of Otago's Dunedin School of Medicine had expressed interest in developing teaching facilities for medical students at the campus, Dr Raetz said.
