A 37-year-old Auckland man is in a serious condition in hospital after falling into the Routeburn River on Thursday.
A passing tramper spotted the man in the river near the Bridal Veil Falls about 6pm.
The man was airlifted to Lakes District Hospital and later transferred to Southland Hospital, in Invercargill.
He suffered multiple fractures to his lower and upper legs, arm, face and skull.
He was also treated for hypothermia.
